Musicians suing Jackson want settlement

HAMMOND, Ind., July 11 (UPI) -- Musicians whose work was performed by the Jackson 5 want an out-of-court settlement, court records in Hammond, Ind., showed Friday.

Producer Gordon Keith and members of a Gary-based R&B group, Ripples and Waves, have petitioned the U.S. District Court for a settlement conference in their lawsuit against Michael Jackson, the Indianapolis Star reported.

It's generally acknowledged a 1996 album of early Jackson 5 recordings includes two songs written and recorded by Ripples and Waves. The plaintiffs say "Pre-History: The Lost Steeltown Recordings," distributed by Brunswick Records, fails to credit Keith for his work and perpetuates a myth that the Jackson 5 once performed under the name Ripples and Waves.

Robert Meyer, Jackson's attorney, said the 44-year-old entertainer repeatedly has stated he had nothing to do with the release of "Pre-History."

Besides seeking damages, Reed wants Jackson to videotape a statement clearing up any confusion about Ripples and Waves and the Jackson 5.
