Verve denies recording rift with Horn

NEW YORK, July 3 (UPI) -- The Verve record label has denied a New York Times report the label wasn't renewing jazz singer-pianist Shirley Horn's contract.

"Verve has been privileged to support Miss Horn's recording career for many years, and we look forward to continuing with her for many more years to come," group President and Chief Executive Officer Ron Goldstein said. "No artist can better continue to carry the torch linking the great vocalists of the past to the present."

Horn, 69, continues to tour with her trio. She is recovering from losing her right leg to diabetes complications last year. She played piano in public for the first time since her surgery with a special prosthesis during the encore of a June 27 Carnegie Hall concert. She said she intends to play full-time again.

Verve released Horn's 12th album, "May The Music Never End," last week. She joined the label in 1986.
