Rowling: Happier than she's ever been

LONDON, June 20 (UPI) -- J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter books, told a BBC audience Thursday night she's finding both good and bad in her new worldwide fame.

During an interview marking the publication of the latest Potter novel, Rowling admitted some aspects of becoming a celebrity have surprised her.

She told BBC interviewer Jeremy Paxman, "I didn't think they'd rake through my bins. I didn't expect to be photographed on the beach through long lenses."

But, she added, "It would be churlish to say there's nothing good about being famous ... I mean, of course, you walk on with a bit more spring in your step. That's a very, very nice thing to happen."

Asked how much she has earned, she declined to answer. But she did admit to being happy. "I am happier now, I would say, than, I've ever been in my life."
