Iran gas summit raises questions
Monday, October 6
AMMAN, Jordan, July 7 (UPI) -- Jordan's peaceful nuclear program could enable the nation to become an energy exporter.
If the program is implemented as planned, the country's energy could be exported by 2030, a top nuclear official said.
Chairman of the Jordan Nuclear Commission Khalid Touqan said the program is a strategic option and will meet the needs for economic, safe and stable energy.
Speaking at a meeting organized by the U.S. Chamber of Trade in Jordan, Touqan said the country will start generating financial revenues from the project within four years, through extracting uranium from phosphates.
"Jordan's uranium reserves are estimated at 140,000 tons," he said.
