VANCOUVER, British Columbia, May 6 (UPI) -- Vancouver-based Western GeoPower Corp. announced a successful test of its geyser field.

The renewable energy development company performed an eight-hour, multi-rate flow test at its WGP-1 well at the Geysers Geothermal Field in California and said it is "a strong producer."

The firm said the geyser well's initial capacity is 10 megawatts and its forecasted, stabilized capacity is at least 7 megawatts.

The well is expected to supply steam to the 35-megawatt Western GeoPower Unit 1 plant, which is projected to begin commercial operations in early 2010.

"We note with great satisfaction that the WGP-1 well is one of the strongest wells drilled at the Geysers during the past 20 years," said Subir Sanyal, president of GeothermEx.

California-based GeothermEx is a geothermal resources evaluator. A second well will now be drilled and following completion additional tests will be done.
