ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, April 7 (UPI) -- India and Turkmenistan signed a memorandum of understanding on a pipeline that will carry gas from Turkmenistan to India.

"The pipeline between Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India will be a weighty contribution to the positive cooperation on this continent," Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov said.

India is also considering a gas-supply route from Iran via Pakistan.

Both routes have logistical and security problems because of the political situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
