DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, March 24 (UPI) -- The Cabinet of the United Arab Emirates said it approved a nuclear energy program as well as a new body to oversee its implementation.

The Khaleej Times reported that Foreign Minister Shaikh Abdullah said the Emirates will publish the program's full details for the international community and will educate the public about the plans.

Accordingly, the UAE intends to establish a Nuclear Energy Implementation Organization with a capital of about $100 million as recommended by the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The country said it has only peaceful intentions for its nuclear program and issued a policy statement including a commitment to transparency. The government also pledged to cooperate with the IAEA to implement the highest standards of safety management.

The issue of the waste associated with nuclear energy is yet to be dealt with. No details have been made available yet about a waste program.
