NEW DELHI, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- India allotted two coal blocks to ArcelorMittal in Jharkhand and Orissa states for the private major's upcoming steel plants.

ArcelorMittal is setting up two 12 million-ton capacity steel plants in Jharkhand and Orissa; each state has one block. The two blocks are Seregarha in Jharkhand and Rampia in Orissa. Both coal-based blocks can generate 750 megawatts of power each, The Financial Express newspaper said Tuesday.

“We have applied for coal blocks to set up power plants of 1,500 mw in Orissa and Jharkhand for captive consumption for steel plants,” ArcelorMittal India Chief Executive Officer Sanak Mishra said.

The company signed two separate agreements with Jharkhand and Orissa to set up greenfield steel plants of 12 million tons each.

“We have already identified 8,000 acres of land in Keonjhar district in Orissa and we have also zeroed in on a project site in Jharkhand and will disclose the place once the Jharkhand government clears its rehabilitation and resettlement policy,” Mishra said.
