LOS GATOS, Calif., June 13 (UPI) --
Silicon Valley is becoming the Solar Valley of California.
Fast-growing Akeena Solar opened its doors to solar power delegates Tuesday from the Netherlands, France, Belgium, United Kingdom and Norway for a six-day trade mission.
Akeena Solar has grown to become one of the largest national integrators of residential and small commercial solar power systems in the United States.
The trade mission was organized by Solar Plaza in collaboration with CALSEIA.
"We are thrilled to share our knowledge and best practices with our European counterparts," said Barry Cinnamon, Akeena's president and chief executive officer. "This will be a productive visit for the solar industry. Silicon Valley is becoming once again the center of a booming industry based on silicon. Only this time it's used to generate energy instead of chips inside computers."
California is the world's third-largest market for solar power systems. The California Solar Initiative program, with $3.2 billion of incentive money for residential and commercial systems, is fueling the rapid growth in the solar industry.
Akeena Solar is vying to become the poster child for the rapid growth, with four new offices in California since the beginning of the year.
The delegates from Europe will also visit Applied Materials, Sunpower, Miasole and the largest commercial solar power site in Silicon Valley at Google.© 2007 United Press International. All Rights Reserved.
