South Korean defense officials, who recently sent a South Korean army colonel to the NATO Defense College for a six-month program, are following up on a 2008 National Defense Ministry white paper designed to establish new channels of dialogue with NATO.

"The (South Korean) government has decided to establish dialogue channels with the NATO and gradually increase its cooperation and exchange with NATO," the white paper said, according to the ministry.
