Training held on community policing

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe held training on community policing in Azerbaijan on Tuesday in a move to strengthen security.

Government and community leaders in Azerbaijan took part in an OSCE initiative to integrate modern policing methods and practices to enhance security in the South Caucasus region. As part of the initiative, police experts held a training course Tuesday on community policing, the OSCE reported.

Officials say the community-policing training, designed to support the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry's policing program, was aimed at establishing good relations between police and the communities.

"We fully support the government's efforts to introduce the principles of modern community policing," Alexis Chahtahtinsky, acting head of the OSCE office in Baku, Azerbaijan, said in a statement.

"The presentations provide information about international best practices to improve the public services offered by the police."
