OSCE calls for Serbia to continue reforms

BELGRADE, Serbia, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- The head of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe called on Serbian leaders Tuesday to increase efforts to combat organized crime.

Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis, OSCE chairperson-in-office, said during a visit to the Serbian capital of Belgrade that the country is playing a critical security role in the Balkans region.

"Serbia plays an essential role in ensuring stability and prosperity, not only in the Balkans but also in the rest of the Southeastern European region at this challenging time," Bakoyannis said in a statement.

Bakoyannis said she was "impressed" with Serbian progress toward European integration, but she called on Serbian government leaders to continue working on reforms and increase efforts to combat organized crime, the OSCE reported.
