Germany to support SLTC in Afghanistan

OTTAWA, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- Germany has announced plans to help support a training center in Afghanistan designed to add security to the country through a comprehensive approach.

Officials from the German government are planning to deploy personnel to help support the Canadian-led Staff and Language Training Center in Kabul, the Afghan capital. The SLTC is designed to help the Afghan National Army build capacity through a multilevel comprehensive training, the Canadian Department of National Defense reported.

Peter MacKay, Canadian minister of national defense, welcomed the support from Germany and said the additional personnel will help the SLTC in its mission to strengthen the interoperability between the Afghan National Army and the International Security Assistance Forces.

"The Staff and Language Training Center will build the capacity of the Afghan National Army, which will in turn help the government of Afghanistan build a more secure environment and establish law and order throughout Afghanistan," MacKay said in a statement.

"The valuable personnel contribution offered by the German government will help to ensure the Center's success."
