The nuclear detection research discussion is being held at the 30th annual Monitoring Research Review in Portsmouth, Va. Experts researching nuclear detonation and detection attended the technical meeting as part of an effort to strengthen non-proliferation technologies.
"Technical meetings such as this one are crucial to advancing both national and international methods to detect nuclear detonations," William Tobey, National Nuclear Security Administration deputy administrator for defense nuclear non-proliferation, said in a statement.
"Research in this area is another step towards our goal to strengthen non-proliferation efforts worldwide."
The research review meeting, co-sponsored by the NNSA and the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory, is designed to boost national and international agencies' nuclear detection and integration capabilities.
