ZAPORIZHIA, Ukraine, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Officials from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe were in Ukraine Thursday to check on military training activities.

Ambassador Lubomir Kopaj, OSCE Ukraine project coordinator, is on a three-day visit to Ukraine. The aim of the visit was to follow up with local officials to discuss the OSCE-sponsored military training currently taking place, the OSCE reported.

Kopaj, who began the evaluation trip in Zaporizhia, also has visited the Novobogdanovka ammunition site to check on the progress of ordnance removal. Officials say while in Ukraine, Kopaj is also expected to discuss energy efficiency, gender equality and government decision-making projects.

"This project has received a lot of attention from OSCE delegations, and we are looking at the possibility of implementing similar projects in other regions of Ukraine," Kopaj said in a statement.

"We came to Novobogdanovka to study how effectively the equipment provided by the OSCE has been used and to learn about the progress made by Ukraine's Ministry for Emergency Situations in cleaning up the ammunition site."
