Iberdrola sells wind power in Arizona

PHOENIX, July 29 (UPI) -- Spain's Iberdrola Renewables announced it has sold the output of its Arizona project.

Iberdrola said it has signed a power purchase agreement for its commercial-scale wind power project. The Salt River Project in Arizona has agreed to purchase the entire output from Phase I of the Dry Lake Wind Project, Iberdrola said.

The Dry Lake Wind Project is the first in Arizona and Navajo County. The first phase, consisting of about 30 turbines, is projected to generate about 63 megawatts of electricity.

The project aims to meet the growing demand for electricity in the Southwest United States, Iberdrola said in its announcement.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2009 and likely will take about a year to complete.
