Khalid al-Assadi, a Shiite with the Dawa Party of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, joined several Iraqi lawmakers in saying the United States should suggest a timetable for troop withdrawal as part of the long-term security agreement with Iraq, Tehran's al-Alam said.
"Withdrawal of the foreign troops is the will of the Iraqi government and political activists," he said.
The lawmaker said the improved security situation and recent political developments in Iraq make a U.S. troop withdrawal "much more possible."
He called for a team of Iraqi lawmakers to approach U.S. officials on the timetable in an effort to present a voice of solidarity on national interests.
"The vital point for the Iraqi nation and political groups is a scheduled drawdown of foreign troops from our country as a national goal," he said.
