The report, which evaluated Europol activities and priorities for 2007, listed the ongoing operations against Islamic extremist networks and other terrorist groups as the most important objective in 2007.
Europol, the European Union's intelligence agency based in The Hague, said a heavy emphasis continued to be on identifying terrorist networks "posing a specific threat to the European Union," Europol reported.
In 2007 Europol developed an Internet portal called Check the Web in a counter-terrorism effort designed to enhance the sharing of information on the Internet activities of suspected Islamist terrorists.
The report cited a new first-response network that went operational in 2007 to assist with immediate investigation capabilities after terrorist incidents.
Other top priorities listed in the report included organized crime, drug trafficking and the smuggling and trafficking of human beings, among others.
