In its editorial, with the title "Pillars of democracy," it said the state must not try to dominate society or turn it into a puppet as is the case in Iraq. It also said the presence of civil society was an objective condition to achieve democracy and sovereignty.
"Constitutional rules and traditions such as voting and consultations among authorities in a state are considered little to maintain democracy," it said.
It added that many dictators kept various political parties and a parliament that are not affiliated with their party, and called for free elections yet such ideologies are used as a cover for their oppression behaviors.
The Kurdish newspaper said democracy is not merely an ideology or theory authors write about; it is an expression of social reality to form behavior based on equality and human rights.
"Democracy forms the individuals' and the groups' personalities," it said. "It is illogical to believe the turning of a culturally and traditionally backward society into a democratic in one day because such a society needs years of cultural development, leading to formation of a civil society that believes in the values of democratic change," it added.
The editorial said democracy must be received by governments and people in order to garner its full benefits.
It also said that in Iraq, the oppressive authority was removed in a few days and replaced by emptiness and chaos.
"The newborn political parties started calling for democracy when there wasn't a government, a process similar to building a house on a soft land," it said.
Iraqi democracy is immature and brought fake political parties that fooled the people during the elections to start killing at night and steal during the day while considering themselves elected "transparently," it added.
"Real democracy will exist in Iraq when the its society becomes civil and developed, able to catch the wheel of cultural development, and liberated politically, mentally and socially so Christians, for example, don't have to wear Muslim outfits or face death or kidnapping," Al Ahali Newspaper concluded.
