NEW DELHI, May 1 (UPI) -- India's Interior Ministry Thursday said it has banned 32 organizations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 2004.

Junior interior minister V. Radhika Selvi told Parliament there was a significant improvement in the security situation in strife-torn Jammu and Kashmir.

In the northeast, she said, there is considerable improvement in the situation in Tripura and Meghalaya, while coordinated measures have been taken to check and control activities of militant groups in Assam, Manipur and Nagaland.

She said that in the Maoist-hit areas, overall violence has more or less remained the same as in past years and has shown some improvement in several areas.
