UAE to purchase amphibious infantry fighting vehicles

The military of the United Arab Emirates is buying hundreds of armored vehicles, which are to be manufactured locally.

March 13 (UPI) -- The military of the United Arab Emirates is purchasing 8x8 infantry fighting vehicles from Al Jasoor, a joint venture by Tawazun and Otokar Land systems UAE.

Otokar of Turkey, owner of Otokar Land Systems UAE, said the number of vehicles covered under the contract are in the hundreds and are based on its Arma vehicle. The contract is worth about $661 million.

"Otokar is very proud to be a partner in this important program, and it shall be a privilege for Otokar to be able to serve the UAE Army and to meet their high standards," Otokar general manager Serdar Gorguç, said in a press release.

Otokar said the vehicles, developed by Al Jasoor, will be built at existing facilities of Tawazun Industrial Park in Abu Dhabi under a special arrangement.
