BRASILIA, Brazil, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Engineers from Brazilian defense company Embraer have participated in a military exercise to better tailor the KC-390 transport to Brazilian Air Force needs.
The exercise, called Transportex, involved 15 air force squadrons and an Embraer delegation of systems engineers from the interior outfitting, flight test, environmental systems and customer training departments, the company said.
"The aim is to acquire knowledge and the operational doctrine to develop the training courses for crews, and foster improvements, together with the engineers responsible for the product system, to fill any gaps that may exist," said Otavio Baroni, instructor Embraer customers.
"Embraer makes these visits to learn and understand how we use our aircraft transport," added Brazilian Air Force Maj. Benitez Fernando Leal. "Thus, we will have a product suited to our needs."

The KC-390, the first of which is to be delivered in 2016, is a twin-engine transport jet developed by Embraer for the Brazilian Air Force. The Brazilian Air Force last May ordered 28 of the planes.
In addition to transport of cargo and troops, the aircraft will be used for medical evacuation and Embraer said it needed to understand the use of intensive care equipment on the plane and discern the optimal placement of electrical outlets on the aircraft for the use of the equipment.
Embraer engineers have taken part in other exercises in the effort to refine the aircraft. One involved sending engineers to Antarctica to track flights of Brazilian C-130 Hercules to identify changes to the KC-390 for its operation in that type of environment.
