SUWANEE, Ga., Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Weapons training simulation systems used by the Australian military are to receive hardware and software upgrades from Meggitt Training Systems.
The company, a subsidiary of Britain's Meggitt PLC, said the work will be performed as part of an $18 million contract from the Australian Defense Force's Hardened & Networked Army and Enhanced Land Force Phase 3 program.
"As the selected manufacturer and training systems' supplier to the [Australian military] for training and weapon simulators, Meggitt Training Systems is fulfilling this upgrade as part of the [Australian military's] continuous effort to advance legacy virtual systems to the latest configuration, improve overall system accessibility and save on costs associated with live fire training," said Ron Vadas, president of Meggitt Training Systems.
Meggitt is to provide hardware and software upgrades to 18 existing weapons training simulation systems facilities in Australia, adding mortar crew and collective training to existing individual marksmanship training capabilities.
Development and delivery of simulators for 81mm mortars, upgraded simulators for .50 caliber heavy machine guns, and an 84mm Carl Gustav anti-tank weapon, are included, Meggitt said.
