MELBOURNE, Fla., Nov. 20 (UPI) -- Enhancements to the U.S. military's Soldier Radio Waveform software are to be conducted by the Harris Corp. under U.S. Army task orders, the company said.
Soldier Radio Waveform, or SRW, is a voice and data waveform to extend battlefield communications networks. Harris said its work will enable faster porting of SRW software to a variety of radio systems and also simplify the management and operation of the network.
"The U.S. government is leveraging Harris' leadership and expertise in tactical communications to provide the warfighter with greater operational capability in wideband networking,'' said George Helm, president of Harris' Department of Defense business. "These are the first of many enhancements that will strengthen the performance of SRW and address evolving mission requirements.''
The orders, worth $9 million, were issued under an SRW in-service, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-deliver contract awarded to the company last year, Harris said.
A timeline on delivering the enhancements was not disclosed.
