DLA opens website for suppliers

FORT BELVOIR, Va., June 26 (UPI) -- Transportation issues and costs faced by contractors doing business with the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency are being made easier to navigate.

DLS reports it has opened a web-based system, in which registered users are provided current addressing and routing logic to "the most cost-effective shipping/routing expertise, military shipping labels and other transportation documents" for DLA-administered contracts.

The system is called the Vendor Shipment Module and is part of the First Destination Transportation and Packaging Initiative for supplies transported through the agency's targeted supply chains.

DLA provides the uniformed services and federal agencies with a variety of logistics, acquisition and technical services, including about 100 percent of the consumable items military forces need to operate -- from food, fuel and energy, to uniforms, medical supplies, and construction and barrier equipment. It also supplies more than 85 percent of the military's spare parts.

The agency said vendors can register to use the system at https://vsm.distribution.dla.mil.
