ARLINGTON, Va., June 25 (UPI) -- The U.S. Air Force effort to improve its financial management will continue to receive support from Accenture Federal Services.
Accenture reported the receipt of a new two-year contract -- its value is $42.2 million -- for the second phase of development of DEAMS, the Defense Enterprise Accounting and Management System that integrates data and processes across the Air Force, the U.S. Transportation Command and the Defense Finance and Accounting Service.
"Better financial data means better decision making," said Joe Chenelle, who leads Accenture's U.S. defense and intelligence work. "An organization as large, complex and critical to our national security as the U.S. Air Force needs a 21st century financial management system, and that is what DEAMS is designed to achieve."
The company says DEAMS streamlines cost accounting, purchase requests, accounts payable, financial obligations, collections and customer billing. It currently manages about $800 million in monthly billings and cash collection.
The Air Force currently has the system in use at two Air Force bases and at DFAS centers in two states. When fully implemented, the system is expected to save the service about $18 million a year in operating costs.
