FAIRFAX, Va., May 10 (UPI) -- A symposium on nuclear and radiological threats and how to defend against them is scheduled for a U.S. university next week.
VIP GlobalNet LLC said the Countering Nuclear and Radiological Threats Symposium is set for the Mason Inn on the campus of George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., near Washington.
"The symposium was organized to facilitate a solutions-based discussion regarding nuclear and radiological threats matching to those capabilities needed to defend against those threats," VIP GlobalNet said.
Subject matter experts will highlight the challenges associated with this mission and showcase cutting-edge detection technologies."
Keynote speaker will be Charles Ferguson, president of the Federation of American Scientists.
Sponsoring the event are: ORTEC, Canberra; Thermo Fisher Scientific; the U.S. Department of Commerce: the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory; Decision Sciences International Corp.; Advanced Nuclear Devices Corp.; the Virginia National Guard, and the NBC Industry Group.
The symposium will be next Wednesday and Thursday.
