WASHINGTON, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- The Harris Corp. has received a $10.6 million award to upgrade communications systems at U.S. Army medical facilities.
The contract for modernizing communications and IT networks at 23 treatment facilities was issued by the U.S. Information Systems Engineering Command and has a one-year term.
Harris said the contract was awarded under the nine-year, $20 billion Information Technology Enterprise Solutions-2 Services contract vehicle, which is the preferred method of contracting for services and supplies for the Army.
"This award leverages the Harris team's experience in delivering trusted critical network upgrades to sites across the nation to enhance our military's medical service delivery," said Mike Deloney, vice president and general manager, Department of Defense Programs, Harris IT Services.
Harris' partner in the work is Federal Resources Corporation of Chantilly, Va.
Under the contract, Harris and its subcontractor provide wired and wireless IT network modernization support, delivering a robust network with the connectivity, reliability, data integrity and information security medical professionals need to provide high-quality care.
Harris said it also has been awarded several network upgrade contracts by the U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard and the U.S. Medical Information Technology Center, the details of which weren't disclosed.
