CALGARY, Alberta, June 24 (UPI) -- The Canadian navy has contracted Raytheon to convert its Phalanx anti-ship weapon systems into a next-generation configuration.
Raytheon says its Calgary-based Canada Limited Support Services unit was awarded the contract from the Canadian navy. Under the $154.8 million deal, Raytheon will convert 21 Phalanx close-in weapon systems from a Block 1B Baseline 0 to a Baseline 1 configuration.
Raytheon will also provide repairs and additional engineering and technical support services as part of the contract.
"This is the largest contract to date for our Canadian operations," Rick Yuse, Raytheon Technical Services president, said in a statement.
"It affirms our expertise in maintaining and converting military systems for our allies, and it further strengthens our already strong relationship with the Canadian government and its armed forces."
