Analogic to support explosives detection

PEABODY, Mass., Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Massachusetts-based Analogic Corp. announced it has been contracted for its explosive assessment computed tomography systems for airport baggage screening.

Analogic is a developer of automatic explosives detection, computed tomography and digital radiography technologies among others. Officials announce Analogic has received an approximately $15 million follow-on order of the EXACT systems from New York-based L-3 Communications.

The examiner 3DX Explosives Detection System, jointly developed by Analogic and L-3, features multi-slice computed tomography imaging providing three-dimensional images of bags contents for screening checked baggage at airports.

"We are delighted to receive this new order. Working together, Analogic and L-3 Communications have become industry leaders in providing the most capable and reliable checked baggage solution for airports," Jim Green, Analogic president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"Our partnership continues to provide the U.S. Transportation Security Administration with proven systems that help ensure the safety of airline passengers around the world. More than 800 examiner 3DX systems have been deployed and are screening bags sixteen hours a day, seven days a week."
