Harris receives certification

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Sept. 5 (UPI) -- New York-based Harris Corp. has received Joint Tactical Radio System approval for its Falcon III handheld radio.

Harris is an international communications and information technology company. Its trademarked Falcon III AN/PRC-152(C) handheld radio was recently JTRS-approved radio to be certified.

The certification from the Joint Program Executive Office makes the Falcon III fully compliant with version 2.2 of the SCA, the overall blueprint for building JTRS software defined radio systems.

The SCA designation is based on test results and a recommendation from the Joint Tactical Radio System Test and Evaluation Laboratory.

"This certification represents an important accomplishment for the Harris JTRS program and the U.S. government," said George Helm, vice president and general manager, U.S. government products for Harris RF Communications, in a statement. "With this certification, U.S. military agencies can continue to acquire Falcon III AN/PRC-152(C) radios with complete confidence that they not only meet existing standards, but will be able to handle future JTRS applications. It is a true testimony to Harris JTRS technical leadership, and further demonstrates the benefit to opening the JTRS market to competition."

Officials say the Falcon III is capable of providing ultra-high frequency ground-to-ground line-of-sight communications, close-air support and tactical satellite communications.
