David Villa scored with 7 minutes remaining Saturday, giving Spain a 1-0 victory in Johannesburg over Paraguay and a berth in the 2010 World Cup semifinals.

Villa scored off the rebound of a shot taken by Pedro. The ball bounced off the left post and came out to the star midfielder near the penalty spot.

Villa's shot got a piece of the right post and trickled over the goal line, handing Spain the win and spot against Germany in Wednesday's semifinal.

Germany advanced earlier Saturday after routing Argentina 4-0.

Villa's goal -- his World Cup-best fifth in the tournament -- came after both Spain goaltender Iker Casillas and Paraguay goalkeeper Justo Villar successfully defended against second-half penalty kicks.

Casillas later made back-to-back saves against on Lucas Barrios and Roque Santa Cruz in the 89th minute to preserve Spain's win.

Germany 4, Argentina 0

Miroslav Klose collected a pair of second-half goals Saturday and Germany advanced to the semifinals of the 2010 World Cup with a 4-0 rout of Argentina in Cape Town.

Klose gave Germany a 2-0 advantage with a right-footed goal in the 67th minute off an assist from Lukas Podolski and capped the Germans' romp in the 88th minute, making it 4-0 putting Germany into the semifinals for the third consecutive World Cup.

Klose's two goals, coming in his 100th game with the national team, gave him 14 for his World Cup career, tying him with Gerd Muller for the German record and just one fewer than Brazilian great Ronaldo for the all-time World Cup goal-scoring record.

Thomas Muller got the game's first goal in third minute and Bastian Schweinsteiger set up Arne Friedrich's first international tally in the 73rd minute for the Germans, who now go on to play Spain, which edged Paraguay later Saturday.

Germany used a clinical performance to totally shut down Argentina's front three of Lionel Messi, Carlos Tevez and Gonzalo Higuain, who were never able to split the German defense. Their increasing desperation in the second half left them open to a potent German counterattack.
