Iranian threats

TEHRAN, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said celebrations of the Islamic Revolution will include nuclear development news and a "telling blow" to world powers.

Iran will mark the 31st anniversary of the revolution Feb. 11 with large public demonstrations. Ahmadinejad said the government will use the occasion to give an update of Tehran's nuclear program.

"Iran will deliver a telling blow to global powers on Feb. 11," Ahmadinejad said Sunday at a Cabinet meeting.

He said: "If the Islamic Revolution had not occurred, liberalism and Marxism would have crushed all human dignity in their power-seeking and money-grubbing claws. Nothing would have remained of human and spiritual principles."

Ahmadinejad spoke after it was learned the United States was deploying missile systems to Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates and putting two ships on patrol in the region as defensive measures against a possible missile attack from Iran.

It is feared additional international sanctions levied on Tehran for failure to be forthcoming regarding its nuclear program will lead to an aggressive reaction from Iran. Some Western powers are of the opinion Tehran is seeking to use its nuclear program to build weapons; Iranian leaders say the program has peaceful ends.
