Most women would be part of research again

WASHINGTON, May 17 (UPI) -- More than 60 percent of U.S. women 50 and older who have participated in a medical research study say they would do it again, given the opportunity.

Ten percent of women 50 and older have participated in a medical research study, according to the survey released Wednesday by the Society for Women's Health Research, a Washington-based national advocacy organization.

However, the survey also found a growing percentage of women are not interested in research or do not believe in participating.

"It is encouraging that most women who have participated in research would consider taking part in another study," said Phyllis Greenberger, president of the Society for Women's Health Research. "This reflects the positive experiences women have had. It also indicates that participating is not overly burdensome, which is something a lot of people worry about."

One area of notable change between the 2006 and 2003 surveys is that 15.9 percent of the women said they are "just not interested in it" or "don't believe in it," compared to 9.1 percent of respondents citing this reason in 2003.
