One in 50 teenagers still wet the bed

HONG KONG, May 17 (UPI) -- One in 50 teenagers still wet the bed, and almost half of those who are age 19 with this problem wet the bed every night, says a Hong Kong researcher.

Professor Chung K. Yeung from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and colleagues analyzed the results of more than 16,500 questionnaires surveying children ages 5 to 19.

The researchers found 512 children, about 3 percent of those surveyed, reported night bedwetting, with one in five of those also having daytime incontinence.

The researchers found that although bed wetting was less common as children got older, the percentage reporting severe problems increased with age.

Older children reported a higher level of severe problems, with 82 percent of children ages 11 to 19 wetting the bed more than three times a week, compared with 42 percent of those ages 5 to 10.

The findings are published in the urology journal BJUI International.
