Rheinmetall, Day & Zimmerman launch joint ammunition venture

DüSSELDORF, Germany, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Germany-based defense contractor Rheinmetall is launching a joint venture with family-owned enterprise Day & Zimmerman.

The two companies will each have a 50 percent stake in the joint venture, which will focus on developing medium-caliber ammunition for the U.S. market. Products will include 25mm ammunition for the Lockheed Martin F-35 joint strike fighter.

The new company will be called Rheinmetall, Day & Zimmermann Solutions, or RDZS. The joint venture was initially announced at the 2016 Association of the United States Army in October.

Day & Zimmerman is an engineering and construction company based in Philadelphia. The company operates over 150 countries.
