WASHINGTON, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Lockheed Martin has withdrawn its protest against the awarding of the multibillion-dollar Joint Light Tactical Vehicle contract to competitor Oshkosh Defense.

Lockheed Martin's move to withdraw its protest comes as a U.S. Court of Federal Claims denied a requested preliminary injunction, allowing Oshkosh Defense to resume work on the contract.

"After careful deliberation, Lockheed Martin has withdrawn its protest of the JLTV contract award decision in the Court of Federal Claims," Lockheed Martin wrote in a brief statement on Thursday.

Oshkosh was awarded the $6.75 billion contract in August 2015.

The Joint Light Tactical Vehicle, or JLTV, is being procured for the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps to replace a large portion of their Humvee fleet. Oshkosh has been contracted to build almost 17,000 of the vehicles.
