"Protecting national security information and assets is an essential part of our mission-critical work for our government customers, and this honor is a testament to our teams who carry out the work with the greatest care," said Craig Albert, president of Bechtel's government services global business unit. "Maintaining secure facilities and programs is non-negotiable and requires the daily focus of our teams and leaders."

Winning the award was Bechtel's office in Reston, Va.

The U.S. Department of Defense's Defense Security Service requires facilities nominated for the award to demonstrate a sustained degree of excellence and innovation in security program management, implementation, and oversight. They must also demonstrate leadership in helping other facilities implement best security practices.

The award is named after James S. Cogswell, the first chief of industrial security within the Department of Defense.
