Military contracts Northrop Grumman for pre-production electronic warfare system

ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill., June 12 (UPI) -- Northrop Grumman has received a joint U.S. Navy and Army contract to produce pre-production units of its electronic warfare management system.

The system is the APR-39D(V)2, the newest variant of its radar warning receiver for use on aircraft.

"Our APR-39D(V)2 merges the baseline capability of previous systems with the Northrop Grumman digital receiver technology to provide advanced capability for today's and tomorrow's threat environment," said Janine Nyre, vice president of radio frequency combat information systems at Northrop Grumman. "This lightweight system maintains interfaces with legacy systems and includes flexibility for future growth enhancements."

The contract is for 18 units, which will be delivered late this year and tested by the military in 2015.

The value of the contract was not disclosed.

The APR-39D(V)2 -- providing 360-degree coverage to automatically detect and identify threats -- maximizes survivability by improving aircrew situational awareness through interactive management of all onboard sensors and countermeasures. Its size and configuration is suitable for a variety of aircraft.
