SCHROBENHAUSEN, Germany, May 26 (UPI) -- Missile-maker MBDA Deutschland GmbH and Roketsan of Turkey are to collaborate in the manufacture of a 70mm guided rocket system.

The rocket system will be based on the 70mm rocket concept for Germany's UH Tiger helicopter, which the companies expect to be ordered soon by the German Army.

The UH Tiger is the EC 665 manufactured by Eurocopter, a part of EADS, which changed its name to Airbus. It is a twin-engine, four-blade aircraft operated by Germany, Spain, France, and Australia.

"The already existing cooperation between Roketsan and MBDA will be extended by this focused initiative," said MBDA Deutschland GmbH Managing Director Thomas Homberg. "We are combining our competencies to jointly providing this required capability to the German armed forces."

The agreement was signed by the two companies at the ILA Berlin Air Show.

MBDA said the two companies will now begin the exchange of business and technical information for the guided weapon system.
