LINKOPING, Sweden, March 12 (UPI) -- Swedish company Sectra has announced it is supplying encrypted mobile phones to the Dutch Ministry of Defense for protected communications.
The device to be supplied is the company's Sectra Tiger 7401. The order, which includes a two-year extension of a framework communications agreement for maintenance of Sectra products used by the ministry, is worth an estimated $804,000.
Sectra said the contract also features an option for a smartphone application – Sectra Panthon – for secure voice and text communications on a different security classification level than that of the Sectra Tiger 7401.
"Unprotected telephone calls and messages pose a security threat to individuals, organizations and nations," says Michael Bertilsson, president of Sectra's Secure Communications business area. "The ministry has shown high security awareness for many years and this agreement ensures that the ministry can continue to keep its national secrets secure, in the best possible manner."
Sectra Tiger 7401 provides interoperability between national, European Union and NATO domains and is Secure Communications Interoperability Protocol-compatible, ensuring easy use with other suppliers' products. The Dutch security agency has approved it for up to and including "secret" communications.
