CLIFTON, N.J., Feb. 26 (UPI) -- The U.S. Air Force has contracted Exelis to provide spare components for electronic warfare technology previously supplied to Pakistan.
The award, worth $9 million, covers components of the company's ALQ-211 Advanced Integrated Defensive Electronic Warfare Suite, or AIDEWS, systems that protect F-16 fighter aircraft from radio frequency threats.
Exelis said the award follows development and integration flight-testing phases of the system onto the aircraft.
"The AIDEWS pod offers dependable protection against a range of dynamic electronic threats," said Joe Rambala, vice president and general manager of the Exelis integrated electronic warfare systems business area. "Working with U.S. and allied customers to stay ahead of emerging threats has helped make Exelis a global electronic warfare leader, and we remain committed to advancing this critical mission."
AIDEWS systems were originally provided to Pakistan by Exelis under a 2011 U.S. military contract worth $53 million.
The number and types of components, together with details on a delivery schedule, were not disclosed.
