PARIS, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- An Airbus facility in Spain is leading a project to introduce harmonized robotic solutions to the aeronautical assembly process.
Airbus said the project at the Airbus Puerto Real plant in Cádiz, Spain, is called FUTURASSY and is to expand automation of assembly with the use of two, armed humanoid robots to perform repetitive tasks.
The research has two areas of interest. The first, 'Airbus Standard Robotic Cells,' looks into the development of solutions to automate assembly by generating standard solutions that are cost effective, flexible, multi-functional and autonomous.
'Collaborative Robots' is the second project area and will specifically focus on the use of humanoid robots that will work in the same environment as human operators, sharing tools and production resources.
Airbus said the first robotic unit acquired by Airbus arrived in Puerto Real from Japan this week and will be integrated at the plant's A380 rudder spar assembly station.
