Bharat Electronics, Sagam tentatively agree to navy equipment deal

NEW DELHI, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Two Indian and French companies are to jointly explore production and supply of navigational equipment for India's navy.

Under a memorandum of understanding signed in recent days between Bharat Electronics Ltd. and Sagam, cooperation will be in the areas of navigational sensors, inertial navigational system and optronic masts to be developed for the Indian navy for its various platforms under consideration for future implementation.

The memorandum is for an initial period of 24 months and can be extended beyond that.

"The MOU will help in understanding and absorbing the critical technology adopted in these sensors for use in future induction platforms of the navy.

Bharat Electronics, located in Bangalore, is one of India's major defense electronics companies, with more than 350 products, including military communication, radars, naval systems and weapon systems.

Sagam is an electronics subsidiary of the Safran Group.

Additional details of the memorandum, announced at Defexpo 2014 in New Delhi, were not disclosed.
