Elbit touts UAS business

HAIFA, Israel, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Israeli defense company Elbit Systems Ltd. is touting achievements of its unmanned aerial systems business sector, particularly sales of its Hermes 900 system.

The Hermes 900 is a medium-sized, multipayload UAS with an endurance of 30 hours and is used for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions. It has a wingspan of about 49 feet, weighs 2,190 pounds and can fly as high as 30,000 feet.

The company produced one Hermes 900 per week last year, Elbit said, and delivered the aircraft to Israel and two international customers.

"The on-going inflow of orders we have received since launching the Hermes 900 four years ago is the best evidence of the system's outstanding operational capabilities, demonstrating this system's operational success," said Elad Aharonson, general manager of Elbit Systems' UAS Division.

Deliveries of Hermes 450 UAS also continued last year, ordered by unidentified customers that use them in conjunction with the Hermes 900, the company said.

"Hermes UAS continue to play a major operational role worldwide," Aharonson said. "We are constantly enhancing our systems and developing innovative capabilities to enable our customers to cope with modern operational challenges and enjoy the outstanding reliability, operational flexibility and high survivability of the Hermes UAS."
