JENA, Germany, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Germany's Jenoptik Defense & Civil Systems division has announced it is producing turret and weapon stabilization systems for Leopard tanks.

The systems, which stabilize and adjust the turret and weapon on the tanks, as well as on howitzer vehicles, are being produced under a contract from Krauss-Maffei Weggmann.

The order is worth nearly $21.4 million and covers turrets for 62 Leopard-2 tanks and 24 PzH 2000 howitzer vehicles.

"This new order for land vehicles demonstrates that our solutions are at the cutting edge of technology," said Jenoptik Chief Executive Officer Michael Mertin. "It also allows us to contribute to the safety of our soldiers."

Details on a delivery schedule for the turrets and stabilizer systems were not disclosed.

Krauss-Maffei Weggmann is the manufacturer of Leopard tanks and PzH 2000 vehicles.

The Jenoptik Defense & Civil Systems division also supplies target acquisition systems and mirror heads for the gunner targeting device on the Leopard 2.
