Web event scheduled on organizational cyber protection

PITTSBURGH, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Carnegie Mellon University says it will conduct a free online seminar to teach organizations how to avoid and survive cyberattacks.

Experts lined up by the CERT division of the university's Software Engineering Institute will explain how resilience models can be used to do a better job of managing cyber risks and to solve security problems.

The school says the Jan. 23 virtual sessions will include presentations and case studies to discuss different approaches to operational resilience. Among those participating on the panels will be representatives of Lockheed Martin, SunGard Availability Services, the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.

The Software Engineering Institute is a government-funded research and development center sponsored by the Defense Department and operated by Carnegie Mellon University. It was tasked by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency with setting up a center to coordinate communication among experts during security emergencies and to help prevent security incidents.
