Swiss give highest certification to Thales flight simulator

PARIS, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- Switzerland's Federal Office of Civil Aviation has given its highest certification to a helicopter simulator delivered to the Swiss Air Force by Thales.

The EC635 simulator, which is for training aircrews on the military version of the Eurocopter EC135 twin-engine multi-purpose aircraft, received the government's JAR FSTD-H Level D certification, Thales said, offering "an extended array of state-of-the-art and highly realistic training capabilities."

Thales said the simulator provides training for a broad array of missions, including cargo and personnel transport, search and rescue, firefighting, and low- level in complex terrain.

The system's projection system offers a 240-degree horizontal and 90-degree vertical fields of view and the entire area of Switzerland is reproduced from a high-resolution aerial imagery database that contains information of roads, buildings and power lines.

The EC635 simulator also can be coupled to the Thales AS532 Super Puma/Cougar simulator in service with the Swiss Air Force, providing pilots with unlimited scope for training exercises involving formation flying and tactical operations.
