Comtech Xicom contracted for traveling wave tube amplifiers

MELVILLE, N.Y., Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Traveling wave tube amplifiers for a major U.S. Army satellite communications program are to be produced by California-based Comtech Xicom Technology Inc.

Comtech Telecommunications Corp., parent company of Comtech Xicom, said the contract is worth about $7 million and was issued from a U.S.-based system integrator.

"Comtech looks forward to supporting this program and the warfighter for many years to come."

A traveling-wave tube amplifier is a specialized tube used in electronics to help amplify radio frequency signals to high power. Comtech Xicom's product range encompasses power levels from 8 W to 3 kW, with frequency coverage in sub-bands within the 2 GHz to 45 GHz spectrum.

Details on the number of units ordered were not disclosed.
