ATC Systems, a local sub-contractor, will provide infrastructure work, installation, training and technical support.

"To deliver IP-based communications coverage for a system this size and in this region is an example of how we are able to provide complex air traffic management communication systems for demanding environments," said Charles Houseago, managing director, Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems.

The company said it will install more than 1,500 Park Air radios across 30 sites in the region and will integrate the new systems into the customer's existing infrastructure.

When completed, the radios will cover more than 50 percent of Brazil's airspace coverage for VHF communications.

Park Air Systems performed similar work is two other regions.

The value of the contract and its length were not disclosed.
